Success Story
The Cleaner, Smarter Way to Modernize a Critical Compressor
How a major Italian refinery replaced a legacy gas turbine compressor with a fully electrified, CCC-controlled train without missing a beat
For a major refinery in Italy, the electrification of the GT-CC 301 propane refrigeration compressor was an opportunity to raise the bar on control, protection, and operational visibility across a critical compression train. The project replaced a legacy gas turbine-driven compressor with a new electric motor-driven unit, requiring end-to-end integration of antisurge, performance, quench, hot recycle, and auxiliary control into a single, coordinated platform.
CCC delivered a Prodigy™ Duplex control system engineered specifically for the new electric compressor, with full redundancy, automated sequencing, and TrainView™ HMI for real-time monitoring and diagnostics. The solution integrated seamlessly with the site's existing DCS and machinery monitoring systems, building on a long-standing relationship that began with CCC's earlier Series 5 Vanguard retrofit of the same gas turbine.
Commissioning was completed on schedule and in line with OEM standards. The results spanned every dimension of the operation: reduced CO₂ emissions, improved process efficiency, enhanced surge protection, and a measurable improvement in operator experience, all confirmed by the customer at startup.
