Calcoil® is the industry’s premier choice in induction heating for cross direction caliper control, calender roll mass-heating and advanced finishing technology for paper. Building on more than 40 years of experience with induction heating systems, and over 800 installations, Calcoil® PRO model series is Honeywell’s 4th generation induction actuator system. 

What Is It? 
Alternating current induction heating raises the surface temperature of calender rolls without contacting the roll or requiring any additional drive power to turn the roll. Individually controlled workcoils are custom-contoured to the roll and sealed in protective epoxy, two zones per one “shoe.” The operating gap between the surface of the coils and the surface of the roll is between 3 – 7 mm (.12 ~ .28”) to ensure proper magnetic coupling to the roll for best energy efficiency.

What Problems Does It Solve? 
By selectively heating the roll surface in narrow zones to adjust localized calender nip loading and raise the overall roll temperature, Calcoil is able to simultaneously adjust the CD caliper profile and paper gloss or smoothness. Improved CD profiles result in reduced rejects at the calender, coater and winder, while improving machine runnability. The average power applied to the roll can be adjusted to improve and provide MD control of paper smoothness or gloss.
