What is it?
Since the publication of AGA Report No. 9 in 1998, multipath ultrasonic flow meters have become a widely used method for measuring flow in large pipelines, particularly in custody transfer of natural gas. This development is attributed to factors such as measurement accuracy, high turndown, resistance to installation effects, and cost considerations. However, like all meters, their performance can be influenced by the conditions in which they are installed. The design and operating conditions of upstream pipework affect the velocity profile of the fluid entering the meter. To reduce installation effects, the Q.Sonic-plus is designed to comply with OIML R137 as well as ISO 17089 Accuracy Class 1, AGA9 as well as MID.

How Does It Work?
The Q.Sonic-plus ultrasonic gas flow meter is a six-path instrument protected by an advanced Elster-Instromet patent. It offers enhanced functionality and increased processing capacity, resulting in reduced measurement uncertainty and additional advantages for users. Its patented path configuration consists of a fully symmetrical arrangement with four swirl paths utilizing double reflection and two single reflection paths. This design facilitates precise measurement of both swirl and asymmetry, enabling superior profile recognition and comprehensive diagnostic capabilities. The reflective paths also support diagnostics to detect conditions such as swirl, fouling, or liquid presence within the meter.

It delivers superior flow profile recognition and consistently maintains minimal measurement uncertainty across all operating conditions. In accordance with ANSI/ISA-62443-4-1-2018 and IEC 62443-4-1:2018 standards, our updated Cyber Security Package features Transport Layer Security (TLS), parameterisation data encryption, and segregation of sensitive data encryption to ensure the highest level of cybersecurity.
