TTCR 17.1 Software Upgrade

Pro Built control systems are supported by Total Train Comprehensive Release (TTCR) upgrades. TTCR 17.1 introduces the S3 Pro, CCC's new single-loop platform, with enhanced security, connectivity, and usability for Prodigy, Vanguard S5 Pro, and S5P.

Overview
Overview
Pro Built control systems are supported through system releases called Total Train Comprehensive Release (TTCR). TTCR 17.1 is significant for two reasons. It introduces the Series 3 Pro, a new single-loop control platform for the Series 3 family. It also delivers security, connectivity, and usability improvements to existing ProOS platforms, including Prodigy, Vanguard S5 Pro, and Vanguard S5P.

What Is It?
Total Train Comprehensive Release (TTCR) 17.1 is a Pro Built® control system upgrade that introduces the Series 3 Pro, CCC's new single-loop controller, and delivers enhancements to existing ProOS platforms. The release supports all existing platforms, including Prodigy, Vanguard S5 Pro, Vanguard S5P, Series 3++, Series 5 Vanguard, Vantage GC/XC, Guardian ODS/SDS, and EAS3.
Key additions in this release include:
Series 3 Pro: A new single-loop control platform designed as a direct upgrade for Series 3 family units, using the same footprint and mounting style. Existing terminations, I/O, and power wiring carry over without modification. The S3 Pro is powered by ProOS software and features an intuitive touch display, bringing class-leading cybersecurity to the single-loop controller family.
Native OPC UA Server (ProOS): A new ProOS version introduces embedded OPC UA Data Access communication for more seamless integration with plant supervisory and historian systems. OPC UA provides structured data with engineering units, quality, and timestamps at the source, reducing integration efforts, improving interoperability, and enabling consistent data comparison across subsystems. OPC UA also includes native security mechanisms such as authentication, authorization, and encryption.
HART-IP Server (Prodigy): Prodigy now acts as a HART-IP IO gateway, enabling easier HART data exchange from field devices to asset management systems without requiring an external HART multiplexer. Prodigy supports HART-IP version 2 for secure communication.
IIoT Gateway for Next Gen HMI integration (TrainTools): For select versions of ProOS controllers, TTCR 17.1 introduces an IIoT Gateway software component that allows local data on the TrainTools server to be pushed to the Next Gen HMI server via MQTT protocol, enabling operations teams to access the benefits of Next Gen HMI with minimal changes to existing infrastructure.

How Does It Work?
This release adds new features through software updates to both control platforms and TrainTools HMI servers. Existing Pro Built hardware can be retained; only software download and configuration are required. Note that this process will reboot the controllers and must be carried out while the turbomachinery train is shut down.
ProOS Platforms (Series 3 Pro, Prodigy, Vanguard S5 Pro, Vanguard S5P)
  • ISASecure CSA SL2 certified cybersecurity for select ProOS platforms with hardware support
  • Native OPC UA Data Access communication for supervisory and historian integration
  • HART-IP gateway capability (Prodigy) for field device data exchange without external multiplexers
TrainTools
  • Latest Windows Operating Systems: supports Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024, in addition to Windows Server 2022 and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021
  • Integrated User Management: integrates with Windows authentication (local or domain) for TrainTools application security
  • Improved Series 3++ Data Archiving Reliability: improves archiving reliability through full support of Windows Services, including Series 3x Configurator
  • IIoT Gateway: enables local TrainTools data to be pushed to Next Gen HMI server via MQTT protocol for select ProOS controller versions
  • Updated Software Components: leverages the updated Maker Pro IDE and other software with enhancements and updates
What Problems Does It Solve?
  • Extends lifecycle of Series 3 installations: The Series 3 Pro provides a direct, non-disruptive upgrade path for existing Series 3 family units, preserving wiring, I/O, and panel infrastructure while delivering modern ProOS control capabilities and cybersecurity.
  • Improves security: ISASecure CSA SL2 certified cybersecurity for select ProOS platforms with hardware support helps harden ICS environments against evolving OT threats.
  • Improves compliance: select ProOS platforms upgraded to TTCR 17.1 carry ISASecure CSA SL2 certification, supporting compliance with the ISA/IEC 62443 series of cybersecurity standards.
  • Simplifies DCS and historian integration: Native OPC UA Data Access reduces engineering effort and improves data quality for integration with plant supervisory and historian systems.
  • Enables Next Gen HMI connectivity: The IIoT Gateway component allows existing TrainTools installations to push data to Next Gen HMI via MQTT, extending supervisory system capabilities with minimal infrastructure change.
  • Reduces field device integration complexity: Prodigy's native HART-IP gateway eliminates the need for external HART multiplexers, simplifying asset management system connectivity.
