Utilities and consumers have become increasingly aware of the need to conserve gas and monitor its consumption. With EnergyAxis AMI and the improved capabilities of the EA_Gas 3.0 module, the utility can deploy modules faster, obtain more precise billing data, and offer improved customer service. Utilities no longer have to plan inventory for each brand of gas meter because the EA_Gas module’s compatibility can be configured at the time of installation. Also, account information is captured at the time of installation, allowing the installer to quickly deploy the module in the field without having to match up the correct unit to the address. The integral gas module and the gas meter can be shipped from the factory pre-installed. Remote mounting options allow units to be wall- or pipe-mounted with up to 100 feet (30 meters) of wire. Pit mounted modules are also available.
Additional Information
The EA_Gas module supports two-way communication within the EnergyAxis mesh local area network (EA_LAN). The module automatically finds the optimal path to the first hop toward the EA_Gatekeeper, giving the EA_Gas module the same robust network coverage as other devices within the EA_LAN. Using the time signals obtained from the EA_LAN, gas meter intervals are synchronized with real time, giving the utility an accurate view of data that is not possible with devices that bubble-up data at various, uncoordinated times.
As with other network elements within the EnergyAxis System, the EA_Gas 3.0 module has security built in and not patched on. Supporting AES-128 bit encryption, the EA_Gas module protects its data and communications with enterprise strength technology. To ensure secure upgrades, the EA_Gas 3.0 uses advanced techniques when implementing over-the-air (OTA) upgrades of its firmware. Even if the utility does not implement all of the security features of the EA_LAN, the firmware image and communication link are secured by AES-128 bit encryption. When the OTA process is complete and verified, the EA_Gas module will automatically resume operation as it was programmed to do prior to the upgrade.
