Automatic Flatness Control (AFC) provides a supervisory control of multiple actuator sets to maintain the measured strip cross-directional flatness at the target settings. Depending on mill and operating mode, the actuators will include combinations of work roll coolant spray flows, roll bending, mill tilt (differential roll gap or rolling load) and variable-crown roll. AFC involves managing a complex set of interactions between thermal and mechanical actuators.
AFC and AGC are integrated for optimization of speed consistent with good gauge and flatness quality.
The MetalsMaster AFC features Profibus, TCP/IP or hard-wired interfaces for connections to
- spray bars
- shape-meters. Both solid-roll and air-bearing types are supported.
Single-window AFC Operator Interface
Variable-crown (VC) roll control support
What Problems Does It Solve?
Enhanced flatness control performance, especially during transition operations of the mill, such as when changing widths or thickness requiring time to stabilize at a new thermal equilibrium in the mill rolls.
Lowest total lifecycle cost.
