CAB

Custom Algorithm Block (CAB) functionality enables users to address process control problems that are not easily supported with standard function blocks. Honeywell’s robust CAB development environment allows the creation of custom control strategies.

Overview
What Is It?
CAB provides an industrial control-oriented environment which is tightly integrated with the Experion platform. Leveraging user-defined algorithms and data structures, it greatly reduces the effort required to create complex and efficient control strategies. CAB can be easily implemented within the Experion® Application Control Environment (ACE) node or the C300 controller, which can be made redundant for even higher reliability. It protects a user’s investments in existing control strategies through a seamless migration to Experion. Control strategies created in CAB work just like other function blocks in Experion controllers. CAB function blocks can be instantiated as required to save time and effort in replicating and expanding processes.

How Does It Work?
CAB development environment is built upon Microsoft Visual Studio software. This ensures a faster learning curve with easy program maintenance. In addition, its object-oriented environment delivers performance and optimization benefits. Honeywell’s long tradition of investment protection and deep understanding of control system language are reflected in the CAB design, making it a progressive evolution of the Application Module/Control Language (AM/CL).
Its powerful development features, including advanced debugging capability, intuitive user interface and custom parameter definition in Control Modules, make it easier to write high-quality control programs with minimal effort. In addition, its integrated security features such as configurable alarms help prevent engineering and control errors.

What Problems Does It Solve?
CAB reduces production costs and increases yield by implementing complex calculations and tighter control. The use of an efficient and simple programming language and integrated environment reduces engineering and maintenance costs. Its flexible and powerful execution environment that includes built-in functions and the ability to re-use blocks minimizes errors, while a controlled programming environment prevents programming mistakes from interfering with other functions
